Mr. Mario Viau of Signal FM Named Recipient of the Mobile Media Entrepreneur for Community Service Award

15 June 2012, Washington, DC — The board of directors of AudioNow announced today that Mr. Mario Viau of Signal FM, Haiti is the recipient of the Mobile Media Entrepreneur Award for Community Service for 2012. Each year, AudioNow considers individuals that have made extraordinary efforts to help their local communities use mobile technology to connect citizens of one country with their countrymen living abroad. Mr Viau is the President and CEO of Signal FM, one of the leading radio broadcasters based in Haiti.

The statement accompanying the award reads as follows:

“Almost two years ago, after Haiti was struck with a disastrous earthquake, Signal FM was the first broadcaster to work with AudioNow to make others aware of the tragedy that had befallen your countrymen. In the midst of this tragedy, you saw the opportunity for improved radio content dissemination and in the process led your country to lead the world in expanding distribution of radio broadcasting to mobile listeners. Your innovative approach will forever change the way that Haitian media can project its messages to the United States and other neighboring countries.

This award was made in recognition of your outstanding contribution to the implementation of new mobile technology to help the people of Haiti communicate with the expatriate community in the United States. The board of directors carefully considered how your approach to mobile broadcasting opened the way for other Haitian broadcasters to follow your lead and utilize the power of mobile phones for innovative uses in the radio industry.”
