1 March 2013. BBC World Service has announced the availability of the BBC Swahili radio news content on demand on fixed or mobile phones in the USA via the provider of mobile-phone radio distribution in North America, AudioNowTM.
The service is launched in time for the 4 March general election in Kenya, giving Swahili-speakers in the US a simple and straightforward access to the BBC Swahili radio reporting and analysis. They can listen to the latest BBC Swahiliradio program by dialing 213.493.0310. While the service is free to callers in the US, mobile-phone users are charged according to their contracts.
BBC Swahili Editor, Ali Saleh, says: “This service is a great addition to our multimedia content availability, further expanding access to our radio output. Whether resident in the US or on a visit, Swahili-speaking news seekers can now get our radio news on the go, via their mobile phones. We want them to join us as our journalists live the story of Kenya’s crucial election and deliver a global perspective of news from Africa and the rest of the world.”
The BBC Swahili radio programming now available via AudioNow includes the global news and current-affairs programs, Amka Na BBC and Dira Ya Dunia, as well as Leo Afrika which focuses on African news.
BBC World Service radio content in Arabic, English, Hindi, Persian, Somali and Urdu is available to US audiences via AudioNow by calling dedicated numbers.
