Voice of America and AudioNow® Digital Announce First App to Expand Global Connectivity over Voice Connections

VOA Mobile Streamer in Stores Now

July 7, 2015 – Washington, D.C.   The Voice of America, in partnership with AudioNow Digital, launched an audio-only app that will allow users to listen to VOA programming over data or cellular voice connections. That option is especially valuable for VOA audiences in emerging markets where streaming audio is not available or cost prohibitive.

VOA Mobile Streamer, which is available on Android and Apple platforms, will provide broadcast audio programming in 33 languages. In addition to on-demand programming, the app also offers live 24/7 radio streams in more than a dozen languages.

“We are very pleased to add this app to our suite of mobile products,” said Kelu Chao, Acting Director of the Voice of America. “VOA Mobile Streamer allows us to better serve and connect with audiences in low-bandwidth countries and provide them with high-quality news and information they can’t get elsewhere. By giving our audience access to our radio broadcasts via voice VOA is now available on even the simplest of mobile phones.”

“We worked with VOA and AudioNow to make a very non-traditional news app experience,” added Adam Martin, Acting Director of BBG’s Office of Digital and Design Innovation. “Mobile Streamer’s unique and refreshing design is particularly attractive to younger audiences, and its accessibility in low-bandwidth areas is crucial to reaching key audiences.”

VOA Mobile Streamer leverages AudioNow’s international Interactive Voice Response infrastructure and will showcase thousands of hours of VOA audio programs that are produced each week.

First Ever U.S. Malayali Radio Station joins AudioNow

HB_Original (1)

April 23, 2015 – Washington, D.C. Radio Heartbeats, the renowned 24 hour live Malayali station based out of Houston, Texas, and AudioNow, the world’s leading mobile provider for call-to-listen and in-language apps for broadcasters, announced a partnership today to vastly expand Radio Heartbeats’ audio content through AudioNow’s mobile platform.

Radio Heartbeats’ in-language programs in Hindi, Malayali and Tamil can be now accessed from any phone in the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Listeners can access Radio Heartbeats’ content by simply dialing the local access phone number on any landline or mobile device. The service does not require a smartphone or apps and uses voice minutes rather than data plans. The list of access numbers for Radio Heartbeats is as follows:

Radio Heartbeats USA: 712.832.2601
Radio Heartbeats U.K: 330.606.0916
Radio Heartbeats Australia: 028.072.5103

Radio Heartbeats is especially dedicated to providing Christian as well as Hindu devotional programming in multiple languages of the subcontinent. The first ever Malayali station to be established in the United States, Radio Heartbeats, is also the only 24 hour live station providing Hindu religious programming with shows like the popular “Abhishek Agni” which has over one hundred thousand dedicated listeners.

After an impressive career as a financial consultant in Dubai, Anthony Roy started Radio Heartbeats in 2008 after moving to Houston, Texas. It was the dearth of any Malayali language based radios in the U.S that prompted Roy to lay the foundations of Radio Heartbeats. The goal now is to provide high quality audio content in multiple languages to Indians all over the globe.

“AudioNow has helped us realize a dream — a dream to be accessible to listeners everywhere in the world. They have helped us transcend boundaries by providing us call-to-listen numbers which eliminate limitations like radio frequencies and internet availability. We are also extremely excited about and look forward to AudioNow developing a customised app for our Radio Heartbeats.”

About Radio Heartbeats

Radio Heartbeats was founded in 2008 on a 1460 AM frequency in Houston, Texas. The main idea behind the creation of Radio Heartbeats was to provide 24 hour live programming in South Indian languages like Malayali and Tamil along with Hindi, the official language of India.
What started as the first station dedicated to providing Hindu and Christian devotional content, Radio Heartbeats, today is the premiere South Indian station providing high quality content to thousands of dedicated listeners all across the globe over a network of seventeen stations featuring content that covers the entire spectrum from devotional programming to Tollywood singing.

AudioNow Engagement App: Industry Insight

AudioNow solves the two most pressing challenges facing broadcasters on mobile devices: expanding mobile distribution and optimizing and engaging mobile listeners in the market. Listeners want information when they want it, and how they want it. AudioNow’s native responsive apps provide options to better engage broadcasters simply and elegantly.

Neal Augenstein, a technology editor for WTOP, Washington’s leading traffic and news station, outlines in his piece Broadcaster Are Missing a Huge Mobile Opportunity: Engagement in Apps, published on PBS’s MediaShift, that many broadcasters acknowledge that mobile is the future, but have no strategic plan for getting there.

Where does the future meet now? AudioNow Engagement Apps.

When a listener opens an AudioNow app, they are presented with the option to listen to an audio stream via streaming or a call-to-listen platform. They can further receive news by opting into push notifications, or utilizing a station’s RSS feed.

Engaging with the station has never been easier. Now with one touch listeners can send broadcasters high-quality video, audio, photo, or text messages. User-submitted content has never been easier to send, or receive. And broadcasters can now eliminate costly SMS fees by communicating to listeners through our platform.

If you’re interested in exploring how to modernize your mobile strategy with the industry’s most engaging, native mobile app, contact Rebecca Walker, Director of Digital Partnerships, at AudioNow at rebecca.walker@audionow.com.

Radio Tele Caraibes First to Debut “ Radio Reporter” News App

PORT AU PRINCE and WASHINGTON, D.C., December 10, 2014– Radio Caraibes and AudioNow® Digital, a leading provider of in-language mobile apps for radio broadcasters, announced today the launch of a new mobile application for Haiti’s largest broadcaster. The app is free to download and is now available anywhere globally on Apple and Android stores.

Radio Tele Caraibes has expanded its partnership with AudioNow Digital by providing unique mobile apps to reach more listeners around the world, on any smartphone.

In a first for AudioNow Digital, the mobile application designed for Radio Tele Caraibes will now include “Radio Reporter”, a feature which allows listeners anywhere to submit video, audio, photography, and text as they happen back to the news desk at the broadcaster. This feature will help Caraibes’ mission to strengthen engagement between its audience and the station, by giving listeners the power to serve as citizen journalists, attuned to news that matters the most to the Haitian community worldwide.

Additional features on the AudioNow designed apps include one-touch call-to-listen enabling listeners to call broadcasters via Wifi at no cost from anywhere in the world; user-selected streaming bandwidth to better manage subscriber data costs; direct messaging to stations; sharing through social media; and push notifications.

“This app is a milestone for RadioTele Caraibes, as it allows listeners around the world to access our content while they are away from home,” said Patrick Moussignac, General Manager of Radio Tele Caraibes. “Having the island’s most popular weekly talk-show available on-demand is something we’re happy to offer our listeners via our new app.”

“We are honored to be launching Radio Reporter with Radio Tele Caraibes,” said Rebecca Walker, Director of Strategic Partnerships at AudioNow® Digital. “The global Haitian community is very engaged with the station, and this platform allows another medium to communicate while on-the-go. It’s a novel idea that stations not only want to give news, but receive it from listeners as well.”
